Internal Complaint Cell

The Internal Complaints Sub-Committee/Cell has been formed in Jamini Roy College in accordance with the following laws: UGC (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Women Employees and Students in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations, 2015, and the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal) Act, 2013. The following Internal Complaints Sub-Committee/Cell (ICC) is constituted to address and manage complaints of sexual harassment in the workplace.

Guidelines of the Sub-Committee/Cell:

Creation of a safe and inclusive atmosphere for the students and the staff.

Redressal of any complaint regarding sexual harassment on priority basis.

Spread of awareness on issues of sexual harassment and gender discrimination.

To make sure of compliance with existing statutory regulations with regard to sexual harassment.

A Clear Understanding of Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment may include the following inappropriate conduct namely:

Initiating or trying to initiate physical contact

Making verbal advances

Demanding or requesting for sexual favours

Making remarks which are sexual in nature 

Showing pornographic materials

Physical, verbal, or non-verbal conduct which is sexual nature.

Important Precautions to Take if Someone Feels Harassed or is Being Harassed Directly

If someone feels harassed and unsafe then the following steps may be taken:

Keeping a record of dates, times, locations, and descriptions of the incidents, including any witnesses if possible.

If the situation permits then the harasser may be told that their behaviour is inappropriate and must stop immediately.

Colleagues, friends, or family members may be informed about the incident.

The incident may be reported in detail with documents to the Sexual Harassment Sub-Committee/Cell.

The complaint will be kept confidential.

The Sexual Harassment Sub-Committee/Cell may be approached for updates. The complainant may please cooperate with the enquiry process.
